What is Modern Dance?
Modern is a dance style that incorporates all styles of dance. Originally founded from ballet principles, modern throughout dance history has developed into a comprehensive art form that asks dancers to use interpretation, original movement, and creativity to develop an understanding of major social issues, world trends, musical interpretation, emotional expression, the telling of a story, or just the meaning of life itself. . Another characteristic of modern dance in opposition to ballet is the deliberate use of gravity. Modern dance activates a dancers ability to become a storyteller through sometimes-unconventional movements while still creating a technique base and enhancing a dancers
Modern Dance at Premier Dance School
Our Modern class students learn to develop keener awareness of their bodies, beginning on the floor with subtle movements of the pelvis and moving into core strength and full body connections. When the class moves to standing, it follows a vigorous and recurring movement structure for spinal mobility and strength. Ongoing standing exercises set the class in motion. Modern class addresses strength, stamina, and flexibility and finds its roots in momentum and multiple articulations. The final combinations, challenge the mind and the body, and develop students’ endurance.
As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
