Policies and Regulations

We are more than just a dance studio! We take pride in the fact that our school teaches more than just dance. We teach discipline, dedication, confidence, and respect to ourselves as well as to our fellow dancers and teachers. Our policies and procedures help us uphold our professional standards. Please take time to read them and explain them to your dancer.

REGISTRATION FEE:
A non-refundable fee of $30 per student and $45.00 per family is required annually at time of registration, regardless of when it occurs.

TUITION:
Your annual tuition is based on a yearly rate and it covers 32 lessons. Holidays and pre-planned closures are already calculated into your tuition. You can find our tuition fees and more details at www.premierdance.org/tuition
PLEASE NOTE: Unless your annual tuition is paid in full upon enrollment, all parents are required to have a credit/debit card on file at all times. The credit card will serve as a back-up payment method if your tuition is past due.

OVERDUE ACCOUNTS:
Premier Dance School does not have a billing service, so it is the parents’ responsibility to pay tuition on time. After the 10th of the month, tuition payments are considered late and a $10.00 or 10% (whichever is greater) late fee per student per month will be added to your account. There is a returned check fee of $30 per occurrence. Please note that students with overdue account balances will not be admitted to class or allowed to participate in the end of the year performances.

MISSED CLASSES:
No transfers, credits or cash refunds will be given for missed classes. Students who missed classes are still obligated to pay the full tuition. However, classes missed due to illness may be made up within a two-week period of the absence. If we have alternative classes, students may schedule a make-up class with their teachers. In case of documented, prolonged illness or injury (lasting more than a month), tuition may be put on hold until the student’s return.

WITHDRAWALS:
We do not charge any withdrawal fees. Withdrawal from a class or the School must be made with a 15-day advance written notice. No refunds or credits are given for any remaining classes to be held within the month of your withdrawal. Tuition for the month of your withdrawal will be charged in full. To cancel registration please email your withdrawal request to contact@premierdance.org, or fill out a withdrawal form and give it to your teacher or mail it to Premier Dance School, P.O.Box 271372, West Hartford, CT 06127. Parents or guardians are responsible for tuition payments and late fees until a withdrawal form/email is received by Premier Dance School staff, regardless of attendance. Simply not showing up to class does not cancel your child’s registration.

INSUFFICIENT CLASS ENROLLMENT:
The School reserves the right to cancel a class because of insufficient enrollment at any time during the course of the academic year. If class enrollment does not exceed five students, the class will be cancelled and students will be reassigned to another class or that class will be combined with another appropriate class.  Refunds will be issued only if the studio cancels a class and another class is not an option. Refunds are effective from the day classes are cancelled.

INCLEMENT WEATHER CANCELLATIONS:
Typically, Premier Dance School will follow West Hartford School District weather closings; the exceptions being if the weather starts off badly but clears up sufficiently in the afternoon to hold classes or if bad weather is predicted in the morning but does not arrive. A decision will be made by 2:00pm. If classes are cancelled, dancers and families will be notified through email and our website. Of course, local conditions do vary considerably so please always use your own best judgment regarding safe driving conditions. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather or other events beyond our control will be made up during the school year or at the end of the season. The number of make- up classes is limited to two classes per season. If an additional class is cancelled, students may attend a similar class for a makeup if we have one on schedule. No refunds for classes missed due inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances will be given.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
Premier Dance School reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if the regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach classes. If a teacher is ill and the School cannot arrange a substitute any missed classes will be made up.

COMMUNICATION POLICY:
It is the responsibility of the parent or adult student to be aware of all School news, activities, calendar dates, performance and other important information. The School will post all such notices on the bulletin board as well as our website and emails sent out. It is the parent’s responsibility to regularly check the board for the updates to ensure they are informed.

IMPORTANT: We are paperless, so email is the primary source of communication to Studio families. Please add   contact@premierdance.org to your address book in order to help ensure you receive these messages.

DANCE CLASS ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS:
Punctual and regular attendance is expected of all registered students. It is strongly recommended that students arrive early for class in order to dress and warm-up properly. Students have to maintain regular class attendance in order to progress effectively and to qualify for participation in performance activities at the school. Absences may put a student at risk for injury and negatively impact production rehearsals. We reserve the right to have students who come late to class, sit out the class and suspend any student from performing in our productions due to excessive absences of classes and/or tardiness.

DANCE DRESS CODE:
We strive to maintain a professional atmosphere for our students; therefore our dress code will be enforced at all levels in all classes. Failure to wear required dancewear to class could result in students being asked to sit out the class. Repeated failure to wear required dancewear could result in termination of lessons. Students are not permitted to wear jeans or shoes worn on the street or outdoors, to any dance class. For safety reasons dancers are not permitted to wear jewelry. Long hair must be tied back. Please check a list of requirements on our Class Attire page of our web-site.

CARE OF STUDENTS:
Premier Dance School is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Parents with students under the age of 6 are to remain in the building during classes. Students are not to be left at the School for excessive time before or after class.

ANNUAL SPRING PERFORMANCE:
Premier Dance School provides students with an exciting performance experience through its recitals. The recital offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of a year’s hard work, dedication and progress. Participation is not mandatory but is encouraged. By the end of the first semester, families will receive a packet with all relevant information pertaining to the performance, including costume requirements and other associated costs.

OBSERVATION OF CLASSES:
Parents are not permitted in the classroom while a class is in session. However, parents and guests may observe classes during the time specified on the yearly calendar. Please refrain from bringing small children, and please plan to remain for the full class period.

LIABILITY:
Parents, legal guardians of minor students and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on School property resulting from normal dance activity or any other activity conducted by the students before, during or after class time and performances.

THE VALUE OF OPEN DIALOGUE:
If parents or students have any concerns, we are most interested in learning about them. Please make a point to bring them up with us. Your needs are important to us. Also, if you have any suggestions, we would like to hear about them. An objective perspective, from the outside looking in, is often valuable and we would like to hear what you are thinking about.
